Ok, I'm sorry but I gotta admit. The best advise I got for helping to prevent shin splints has got to be to tap my toes. Since I've started tapping my toes, I haven't had any shin pain!! WAHOO!!! I tap my toes about 50 times once or twice a day, and I tap my toes right before I run to warm up. I have had no pain since!!! AWESOME!!!
I had another early morning run, and I loved it. I started off too fast, and I knew it would catch up to me, but I really didn't care. I felt great! I felt really good almost all the way through, but my time wouldn't show it. AND, I drove the exact distance, and I've been counting it as a half a mile to and from my house to the running path, when it's actual .85 miles. I also found out that one stretch of the running path is actually.6 miles instead of .5. SO, I'm counting that as a whole mile!!! The best part about this whole day is that I get to add ANOTHER 4 miles on my count! It's a great day, and it's only 9am!!
